For the past almost 500 years, and since Columbus came to the New world, a number of people's cultures, from this side of the Atlantic and the Old World, have been mixing, and boiling within the big cauldron of what is known as the Caribbean Basin. Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Columbia and Venezuela, have served as the cradle of this phenomena, which encompasses the Spanish way of seeing and enjoying life, and that of the aboriginal or Indian culture and the Africans as well.
What emerged very slowly was a very interesting and unique mix of sounds, foods, inclinations, habits and just plain attitude towards life; In short: The Caribbean Hispanic Culture. And one must say, that it is, totally different in every aspect, to the idea purported by the vast majority of people in the United States. Because the castanet bearing flamenco dancer, and the tassels ribboned sombrero of the Mexican charro, so prevalent as the image, has nothing to do with this culture.
The Caribbean Hispanic Culture is unique, no better or worse than those found in the rest of Latin America; though, there are certain tangencies and similarities in all of them. The thing is, that it is different and separate culture.
This been said, we can now open the door and let you in...enjoy it.
